The Mothers by Brit Bennett

Sometimes secrets can eat you alive and change the course of your life. Brit Bennett explores the impact of a secret, love and a small community in her debut novel, The Mothers. A decision and a two lives cut short frame 17-year-old Nadia Turner's summer and help to shape her future, a friendship and an eternal "what-if" relationship.

I'm always rooting for everybody black, so of course I bought this book. I'm also trying to read more books by black authors, so if you have any suggestions, please send them my way. The book makes you reevaluate your own choices in life as it shows the ways in which we reflect on the decisions we've made in our youth. The Mothers made me feel so deeply that when I put down the book, the story still felt alive and unfinished in a way because the characters seemed so real. It's a must-read if you're looking for a hearty and emotional literary journey.
